GENERAL INFO
Toilets & Showers

There are toilet blocks throughout the campsites and arena. We are working hard to improve the standards of the toilets this year. At most toilet blocks, there will be a toilet service attendant based there permanently. If you notice any toilets that need servicing, please let the toilet service attendant know or if you cannot find an attendant please tell the CAT teams in the campsites or the HAT teams in the arena. All toilet paper supplied is made from recycled toilet paper. Any additives used in the toilets are biological and are not harmful to the environment.

Disabled toilets are available at each toilet block in the arena, at each stage viewing platform, in the disabled / guest campsite and in the hospitality area.

The shower tent is situated in the Village and will be increased in size compared to 2007. The showers will be open from 6am to 1pm and from 7pm to 12.30am each day.

Green Alternatives…

Composting Toilets
Take a trip into the woods and discover our new compost toilets. They are being tested out this year and if you like them we’ll look at having more next time. Let us know what you think!

Solar Showers
If you’re camping in the family campground you’re in for a sun shower. Navitron Solar Showers are providing 12 000 litres of hot water every day… and if the weather’s good it will be heated to 40 degrees entirely with solar energy. The showers have twenty banks of solar evacuated tubes pulling heat from the sun. In case of bad weather, the water will be heated using a wood burning stove. The showers are all-in, so bring your swimming costume if you’re modest! They also have some great home solutions for solar showers, so have a chat to them.

These showers can run for 6 hours a day and the plan is to run them in the morning from 7am to 10am and in the afternoon from 5pm to 8pm. Hours may change slightly depending on the sun and the demand. So please keep an eye on the signs at the showers to let you know when they’ll be open. The Navitron team will be happy to talk you through how the system works, it really is quite remarkable.  Again, we’d appreciate your feedback on this. Is hot water on tap when ever you want it important, or are you happy to be a little flexible and have a shower heated by the sun?

Ecover Body Wash
Our friends at Ecover are again providing ecological shower gel. The waste water from our showers is treated through a soak away system, so we need you to ensure you only use Ecover, or your own ecological body wash and shampoo.

GENERAL INFO
Seating
Open air non seated event - some seating available on picnic benches in the arena, deckchairs by the lake and in the Obelisk Arena.
GENERAL INFO
Wristbands

Customers must exchange their ticket for a wristband as soon as possible after arriving on site.

The main Wristband Exchange is in the Village near to the Hospital. Ask a member of staff to direct you. There is also a family wristband exchange in the family campsite. The wristband exchange for day ticket holders is situated by the day ticket entrance.

Re-admittance to the site is only possible once you have been wristbanded. Entrance to the arena is only possible with a valid wristband, tickets will not be allowed through at this point.
Wristbands removed from the wrist or tampered with will be rendered invalid and will not be replaced.

To avoid any disappointment we advise all ticket holders to leave plenty of time to get their wristband and allow time to walk between the campsites and the stages to avoid missing any of your chosen acts.

We advise all day ticket purchasers to arrive early to avoid missing any of their chosen acts and to leave ample time to get from the entrances to the stages.

TRAVEL
Please use Public Transport

Travelling by public transport can save you time and money, is stress free and sociable and is by far the greenest option. Please consider leaving your car at home.

Travelling by coach to the festival is by far the lowest impact way to travel if you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint in association with attending the festival. Train is the next best option in terms of CO2 emissions. If you travel alone to the festival by car, you are emitting approximately ten times the amount of CO2 than if you travelled to the festival by bus and three and a half times as much as if you travelled by train. Coming to the festival by coach or train will not only reduce total CO2 emissions, it will also help to reduce congestion in the carparks and on the surrounding roads.

We have joined up with Anglian Bus and National Express to offer you a variety of convenient and good value public transport options. Please note that National Express East Anglia now run the trains into Halesworth and Ipswich formerly run by One Railway.

If you have spare seats, then please consider lift sharing.

Please read this practical safety guide on liftsharing put together by A Greener Festival: http://www.agreenerfestival.com/Lift_Sharing.pdf

TRAVEL
Trains

Train services into the nearest station, Halesworth, are limited in capacity and  frequency and festival goers travelling to site on the Thursday afternoon or Friday during the day or back home Monday morning, are advised to travel via Ipswich instead to pick up one of the shuttle buses that we are running from Ipswich.

For further information on rail services or to book tickets call 08456 007245 (National Express East Anglia) or 08457 484950 (National Rail Enquiries) or visit www.nationalexpresseastanglia.com

National Express East Anglia have agreed to honour train tickets to and from Halesworth on Ipswich trains if Halesworth trains are too busy.

National Express East Anglia have organised 2 special trains that will travel non stop from Halesworth to Ipswich where they will connect with London services leaving Halesworth at 10.05 and 12.45 on the Monday.

TRAVEL
Shuttle Buses

Shuttle buses run by Anglian Bus will leave regularly from both Ipswich and Halesworth train stations and will travel straight through the gates into site to the festival bus station. Please note that the capacity of trains into Halesworth is limited and if you are travelling on Thursday, Friday or Monday you are advised instead to travel by train via Ipswich and pick up the shuttle bus from Ipswich to the festival site and vice versa.

Using public transport and the shuttle bus is the best way to arrive at Latitude Festival. The shuttle buses run regularly, the operation should be smooth and hassle free and there will be enough shuttle buses to meet the demand.

The shuttle buses will pick you up and drop you off right outside Halesworth and Ipswich railway stations and it is likely that you will not have to queue as long to get on a shuttle bus as you would in a car to get to or leave the car park at peak times. Plus you can make friends on the way, enjoy a drink and feel good about your reduced impact on the environment. The fares for this year's shuttle bus service are being held at the same price as last year to encourage you to use it.

The bus station onsite is via Green Gate 2 on the A145 and is next to the Old Stables. When you arrive at the bus station, follow the signage to the weekend campsite entrance or day ticket holder entrance.

The Old Stables is a large red brick building with a clock tower.

Please note that National Express East Anglia have asked us to discourage festival goers to bring their bikes onto the trains as space is limited.

Consider Car Sharing:

Peak traffic flows arriving onsite are likely during the afternoon of Thursday 17th July and during the morning of Friday 18th July . Most traffic is expected to depart the site late in the evening on Sunday 20th July and before noon on Monday 21st July.
We are working closely with Suffolk Constabulary to develop traffic management plans which aim to ease congestion around the site, to minimise disruption to the road network and to ensure regular road users are affected as little as possible.

The routes to the festival will be well signposted and will be included in written information sent out with all tickets to the festival.

Those travelling from the south on the A12 will be directed straight into site from the A12. Those travelling from the Lowestoft direction on the A12 and day ticket holders will be directed straight into site from the A145 via Middle Barn Lane which connects the A12 and the A145.

Car parking is included in the price of your ticket. There is no parking on any of the roads in the vicinity of the festival site. Tow away vehicles will remove any illegally parked cars.

Once you are onsite, you can check with the Information Tent if you have any travel queries.

TRAVEL
Car Parking
Weekend and day car parking is separate to the campsites in adjacent or nearby fields. Car Parking is included in the price of your ticket. No sleeping, camping or fires are allowed in the car parks.

Tow-away vehicles will remove any illegally parked cars. There will be a local recovery service based onsite on Monday morning or you can call their 24 hour number on 01986834099.
TRAVEL
Car Sharing

Car sharing will help save you money by splitting the petrol costs, reducing the amount of congestion on the roads leading into the festival, and getting you onsite quicker. Of course by car sharing you’ll also be kinder to the environment by reducing fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions. If you have to come by car to the festival because the bus or train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car.

So Double Up & Cut Down …  four people in your car will bring the per person CO2 impact down to less than travelling by train. Join forces with others and fill up all your seats.

Last year we had 290 liftshare matches and we’d like to try and reach 1000 this year.

Below are three schemes you can join. Have a look through them and see which one suits you.

SAFETY FIRST

Please read this practical safety guide on liftsharing put together by A Greener Festival: www.agreenerfestival.com/Lift_Sharing.pdf

•           Please note that all arrangements which you make are private arrangements between you and other sharers. The Festival does not arrange lift sharing or have any liability to or for lift sharers.
•           Make sure you know the identity of the person or persons you are sharing with.
•           Having a home telephone number is sensible precaution and make sure you leave details of the lift share, the driver and passenger's number(s) and home address if possible with friends and/or family.
•           Take your mobile phone with you.
•           If you are at all uncomfortable with any arrangements, or the condition of the vehicle being used, then make other plans.
•           If a vehicle is not taxed it is possible the driver has no driving license, no insurance and no MOT.
•           Safety first: trust your instincts and use common sense.

Day ticket holders wishing to travel to site using public transport rather than by lift-sharing or by car are advised to plan their return journey after the main entertainment finishes in advance as there are no train services from Halesworth or Ipswich at that time of night and therefore the shuttle bus will not run at that time. Anglian are running a late night coach to London.  Taxi services have been invited to come to site to pick up at this time however it is advisable to book in advance. Taxi companies will be sent maps of the site and should be told to enter site via Green Gate on the A145 for pick ups for day ticket holders at the onsite taxi rank.

There is also a day ticket holder campsite onsite for day ticket holders that cannot travel home that night and wish to stay overnight instead and travel home the following morning. Facilities are limited and there is no charge for the use of this campsite.

We have created a "day ticket holder campsite" for any day ticket holders who are unable to get home after the main entertainment finishes. There will no charge for this campsite this year. Please note that there is limited capacity and no facilities in this campsite other than a water point and toilets. You will be able to pitch a tent when you arrive. You will only be able to stay in the day ticket holders campsite overnight on the night after your day ticket is valid.
At the end of the entertainment, please return via the gate that you entered the arena through (the day ticket holder entrance / exit) and the day ticket holders campsite is at the top of the hill on your right.

On Saturday morning the first shuttle bus to Halesworth is at 8.55am, on Sunday it is at 10am and on Monday it is at 6.50am.

The shuttle bus station is near Green Gate 2 next to The Old Stables (large red brick building with clock tower) quite near to the Day Ticket Holders campsite. Please ask a member of staff to direct you.

                                                      ~  .  ~

There is a coach service to London leaving site at 23.30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Please see local bus services

If you are planning to catch the last train back on Sunday evening from Halesworth please note that Anglian Coach will not transport more people to Halesworth than the train can accommodate and therefore if the Halesworth huttle is at capacity, additional continigency shuttle buses will run to Ipswich.

Transport Impact

Riding your bike to the festival will obviously put out the least amount of CO2 emissions, but that’s not practical for everyone. If you’re looking for motorised transport, travelling by coach to the festival is by far the lowest impact way to travel if you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint in association with attending the festival. Train is the next best option in terms of CO2 emissions.

If you travel alone to the festival by car, you are emitting approximately TEN TIMES the amount of CO2 than if you travelled to the festival by bus and three and a half times as much as if you travelled by train

Coming to the festival by coach or train will not only reduce total CO2 emissions, it will also help to reduce congestion in the carparks and on the surrounding roads.

If you have to come by car because the bus and train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car. As an example, if you are driving an average sized petrol car, having four people in it will bring your impact down to just a bit more than travelling to the festival by train, and just under twice as impactful as travelling by coach. So it really does make a difference if fill up all the seats.

_____________

Figures for these calculations were taken From DEFRA July 2007 Report: Passenger Transport Emissions Factors. http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/business/envrp/pdf/passenger-transport.pdf

Car Travel
(average sized petrol car)
- 335 gram C02 per mile (1 passenger)
- 167.5 grams CO2 per passenger mile (2 passengers)
- 83.75 grams CO2 per passenger mile (4 passengers)

Train Travel (National Rail diesel trains – average passenger numbers per annum)
- 96.32 grams per passenger mile

Coach Travel (Annual average figures of coach types and carriageways)
- 32.88 grams CO2 per passenger mile

Campsite Facilities

The campsites will be divided into coloured zones (Yellow, Red, Green and Family) and each zone will have its own facilities including toilets, water points and fire towers.

Zone Managers will be working 24 hours in each zone and will be based near the Fire Tower. There are also teams of security and Campsite Assistance Teams (CATs) in each zone who are there to help you, so please use them. Inside the arena, Helpful Arena Teams  (HATs) will also be around, so ask them if you need to!

As you enter the campsites, if you would prefer to camp in less crowded areas, the gate stewards can advise you where to go. If a campsite zone is full, they will direct you to an alternative campsite. There is plenty of space in the campsites for the capacity attending and so you should be able to find a space which is comfortable for you. Try to note where you camp in relation to a numbered sign or other fixed point or mark your camp with a flag so that you can find your way back to your tent. Say hello to your neighbours to build a community feeling and provide greater security. Look out for each other.

You cannot drive into the campsites at any time due to fire regulations but there will be some wheelbarrows available to help you transport your belongings from the car parks to the campsites. Look out for the wheelbarrow sheds in the car parks.

You can also ask the CATs inside the campsites if you need help with something.

Facilities such as showers, food traders cash points, the supermarket, left luggage, lockers, welfare tent and first aid are available in the Village next to the Yellow Campsite.

Campsite Assistant Teams(CATS)

You can contact the CAT volunteers – head towards your nearest fire tower or catch them as they patrol around.

If you're interested in volunteering to be a CAT please visit:

Food & Packaging

Compost It at Latitude

When you buy food from the traders at Latitude Festival, everything your food comes in is biodegradable. You will notice many traders have plates, bowls and trays as pictured left. These are BioPak products made from waste material from the sugarcane industry. If it wasn’t used to make plates, this waste product would otherwise be land-filled or incinerated.

Using plastic or polystyrene packaging is not sustainable – they’re not only oil based but polystyrene can’t be efficiently recycled, and plastic containers that aren’t washed out can’t be recycled either. So we’re going with sustainable packaging that’s also compostable. Our composting makes its way just up the road to Parham, where a fantastic in-vessel composting plant is waiting to take your leftovers. Please make sure NO PLASTIC goes into the compost bins as otherwise the whole load may be rejected.

Bins will be separated into three –
Recycling for plastic bottles and aluminium cans,
Compost for all food scraps, food plates, bowls, coffee cups, pizza trays, cutlery, paper napkins.
Everything else goes into the Landfill bin.

FOOD & DRINK
Bars
There are several bars in the arena and one in the Village area. The bars should be able to accept credit or debit cards. It is down to you to prove that you are over 18 and you will need to do this before you are able to buy alcohol.

Forms of ID that can be accepted are:

o Portman Proof of Age Card
o Citizen Card,
o Full or provisional photo card driving licence issued by the DVLA
o Passport

CARE & SAFETY
Crime Prevention

Festivals are full of young, fun loving and like-minded people but beware they are also an easy patch for career criminals and opportunists who know how festival goers tick, and the Latitude Festival is sadly no exception and so please read through the advice below and plan ahead for the event. Remember that it is impossible to make a tent secure. You can however make it difficult for a thief. Be vigilant and beware of thieves.

Festival Republic, Latitude Festival organisers, and Suffolk Constabulary have teamed up together to provide information to festival goers that may help those who will be attending the Latitude Festival this year.

We are all keen to ensure that the festival goers do what they can to prevent themselves and their new festival neighbours from becoming a victim of crime and we have compiled the following festival savvy tips for you:

o Quite simply – please DON’T BRING THEM!    Ipods, MP3 players etc - you don’t need them here – there is enough going on for you to be entertained without them.
o If you have to bring valuables please use the lockers provided by Lockerhouse in the Village [The Locker is used at Hirers own Risk] - open 24hours, but only available to Weekend Ticket holders or the left luggage facility both found in the Village rather then store them in your tent. It is impossible to make a tent secure. Postcode your belongings – UV pens will be available from the Campsite Assistance teams.
o Don’t leave valuables in your tent. Remember that tents are very vulnerable, even zipped up.
o Split your cash and cards into two hoards so that if one lot goes – you have back up
o Don’t carry more money than you need on you – there are cash machines operating 24 hours in the Village and in the arena (during opening hours). There will be a surcharge of £2 per transaction. The Supermarket will also have a cash back facility.
o If you can’t store them in a locker (buy here) keep your valuables in different places under your pillow or zipped up in a pocket well inside your tent while you sleep rather than by the tent door
o To increase your chances of getting your mobile phone, ipod or digital camera back if you’ve lost it, or indeed, had it stolen, register it on the Immoblise Database. It takes a couple of minutes and is completely free. You can register anything with a serial number on it and every item recovered by the police or handed in, is checked against the database.
o Don’t carry anything in back pockets – especially at the stages, pockets with zips are better.
o Don’t leave anything valuable in your car – maybe go and check on your car during the show?  Leave your glove compartment empty and also open.
o If you have any concerns about your safety in the campsites, camp somewhere well lit, go near a fire tower or on the edge of an emergency access lane.
o Introduce yourself to campsite staff, show them where your tent is, stick a funny flag on it so it’s easy for them to see, and ask them to keep an eye out.  They will.
o Introduce yourself to your neighbours and set up a neighbourhood watch system, it may sound naff but experience shows that the best and friendliest campsites are the ones with people in that make the effort to do so.  More friends to party with too.
o Report anything or anyone suspicious to campsite staff – you can do this anonymously if you wish and that is what the staff are there for.
o Don’t put a padlock on your tent as this screams “I have something worth stealing in here”
o Don’t bury your valuables by your tent as someone is bound to be watching.
o Only bring the bank cards and keys that you need with you in case they get lost. Make a note of your bank card numbers and leave it at home to make cancellation easier if they get lost.
o Remember, by comparision with many day to day environments, the Latitude site is a very safe and friendly place. We have employed staff to be there for you. Be sure to help them to do what they are there for, to make this a safe and happy, crime free festival.

CARE & SAFETY
Personal Safety

Make sure your mobile is charged up on a daily basis - in the early afternoon - so that it is ok for the night when it’s dark, the stages get busy and you are more likely to lose each other.  Orange will have a transmitter onsite to improve the signal. There are phone recharging points inside the lockers  provided by Lockerhouse (these require 12v car adapters/chargers [The Locker is used at Hirers own Risk]) in the Village and a trader onsite should be selling battery operated phone chargers if you need them.  Ask at the information tent in the Village for exact locations of the trader.

Keep your phone well hidden – how annoying would it be to lose all your contacts?

Stay in groups and be tolerant of friends slowing you down.

Arrange an easy meeting point with your mates before you get to the event. No one likes to be left to have fun on their own for long.

Security staff will be patrolling in the campsites 24 hours throughout the festival. They are there to help but are also watching for suspicious behaviour. There is also CCTV that is monitored by Security Control as well as theft spotters on the Fire Towers. We will do all that we can to prevent thieves from operating onsite, but remember that tents are impossible to secure and either don’t bring any valuables or use the lockers (buy here) or Left Luggage tent to store them and look out for each other.

If you do become a victim of crime – DO NO RESIST– give them what they want and make sure you get a good look at them or their clothes, so that when you report them we have a good head start.  Also, make a note of exactly where you are if you can – look out for loos, fire towers, unusual tents, what colour the bunting is and what the road name is etc

The Welfare tent is there for you in the Village, as is the onsite police surgery daily in the morning in the Left Luggage Tent in the Village.  These facilities are there to help you if you need it.

If you have an incident with a security guard, steward or any other member of our staff that you want to tell us about – please make a note of their tabard number, or the name on their pass.  Without this information we can do very little as identifying them without this number or name is very difficult. You can make a complaint via the Information Tent or through your Zone Manager and this will be passed straight on to the organisers onsite. Information coming in live helps us do something about it at the time, so please let us know about any problems as they happen, if they happen, which we hope they won’t.

Please don’t be alarmed by our advice – just be forewarned that it does happen to some people and we don’t want it to be you.  Plan ahead.

Oh, and have the most memorable festival of your life for all the right reasons!

CARE & SAFETY
Crime Reporting

If you are unfortunate enough to be the victim of crime, report it to Suffolk Constabulary either at their daily surgeries in the Village Area (inside the Left Luggage Tent) or by telephone to 01473 613500. You can also report crimes via crime reporting forms at the Welfare Tent. These forms will then be passed on to Suffolk Constabulary.

If you see a crime taking place, alert the nearest member of staff immediately.

If you are reporting the theft of a mobile phone, you will be required to first contact your network provider and have the handset blocked. This will ensure that its use will be blocked across all UK networks even if the SIM card is changed, and will render it useless to the thief. A list of contact numbers for UK network providers will be available at the Information Tent and at the Welfare Tent.

It is always worth checking at the Left Luggage Tent which runs the onsite Lost Property service first in case you have lost your item, rather than had it stolen or in case it has been handed in.

CARE & SAFETY
Looking after number one
o Look after yourself, don’t overdo it, and most importantly, look out for others.
o Remember there is more chance of catching an infection in a field than at home so make sure you use the water points around the site to wash your hands regularly.
o Latitude takes place on uneven farmland with stone tracks and metal trakways. Take care, especially at night. Strong shoes for walking are a good idea – as is a torch after dark.
o Please do not climb on any trees onsite. It is dangerous and may damage the tree.
o Due to the beautiful lake onsite in the arena, there may be some midges, especially at dusk, cover up and bring insect repellant with you. Insect repellant will be available for purchase onsite at the Supermarket.
o Please don’t dig holes as the site is normally home to cattle and sheep.
o Illegal drugs are no more legal onsite than off.
o Give any passing security or emergency vehicles plenty of space to pass and don’t ride on vehicles.
o Prolonged exposure to high volume noise can cause severe hearing damage.
o Serious sunstroke, sunburn or cancer can be caused by the sun on unprotected skin.
o Bar staff will ask for proof of age whenever a customer appears to be under 18 – so if you think there is a chance you may be asked, best bring some photo ID. It is down to you to prove that you are over 18.
o Antisocial and illegal behaviour will not be tolerated: Eviction, possibly by the police, without return will be the outcome.

Helpful Arena Teams (HATS)

The HATS are also new this year in response to some feedback from you last year that you couldn’t find someone to talk to in the arena. They are based in the arena throughout the hours that the arena is open – head towards your nearest toilet block or catch them as they patrol around. If you have any questions, need any help with something, are concerned about a group or an individuals behaviour, would like to complain about a build up of litter or let us know about any facilities which require attention – please contact a HAT volunteer – they’ll do their best to help.

CARE & SAFETY
Onsite Services - Emergencies
In an Emergency please contact the nearest member of security or Campsite Assistance Teams (CAT), Helpful Arena Teams (HATs) or your Zone Manager for help. There is an onsite fire fighting team who are fully equipped to deal with any fires and are backed up by Suffolk Fire and Rescue service if required. There are fire observation towers located in the campsites.

There are fire extinguishers located throughout the site and many of the stewards and security staff have been trained in fire safety in addition to the onsite fire fighting team.

There are medics onsite who are fully equipped to deal with all situations along with a Hospital in the Village area. The medics also have roving patrols and provide an Accident and Emergency facility with full resuscitation, GP facilities and surgeries and psychiatric treatment. There is a landing point for air ambulances if required.
